My strange series of early [ish] tweets about the Lincoln assassination and Our American Cousin
A friend mentioned being on Twitter for five years, so I wondered how long I've been on Twitter [about five years, January 2009] and that meant I looked through my archive and just clicked around a bit. My first three months, or so, were pretty piss-poor. I was rude to folk in what I thought was a funny way [but wasn't all that funny] and many of my tweets were short and needed context to make sense. After a bit I grew into it, started mixing in my blend of literary/horror/movies/game references with odd jokes, surreal commentary, and daily rants.
Then, in July of 2010, I released a four-tweet salvo asking the question: Whatever happened to Our American Cousin? There are reports, on Wikipedia, on how it faired up to 1865, and such, but not a lot of good info was given about how it ended up after the whole "Lincoln shot" thing. Except, I may have gone a bit Doug, there...
Something crazy from the Wikipedia article? The line that was the last joke Abraham Lincoln ever heard, one he was probably laughing at as he was shot, was:
"Don't know the manners of good society, eh? Well, I guess I know enough to turn you inside out, old gal—you sockdologizing old man-trap."
Jesus.
